a few new additions from artecnica include the anemone light fixture by heath nash. it is made of a tyvek-like material creating geometric cells outside of a protective metal sphere. the lamp is completely malleable and can be hung or rest on the floor or table. another lamp is the double stray by inga sempe. the pendant fixture is influenced by paper lanterns and is flat-packed to unfold accordion-style. kaktus by enrico bresan is a delicate and surprisingly comfortable stool made of polish aluminum inspired by the skeleton of the staghorn cholla cactus.

icff: artecnica.
icff: loft living furniture.

i'm a sucker for anything that allows flexible living. loft living produces custom pieces that allow for this kind of flexibility. tables are adjustable from seating height to bar height and the items can also have casters. materials can include anything from plastic laminate to solid wood to resin.
icff: bev hisey.

in the woods 1 by bev hisey is a rug based on an oil painting of a woodland scene created by bev's grandmother. the colors are amazing in person.
icff: molo.

so i finally got to sit on the kraft paper softseating by molo. plus it was cool to see the seating in person and how it develops a kind of patina as it ages and develops imperfections. made me like it even more.

designboom mart: 22 designstudio.

22 designstudio has been a favorite for a while. it was a treat to see their concrete rings in person and i was surprised by how light they are.
designboom mart: zillion.

zillion from japan was one of the unexpected surprises. they produce hats and shoe strings made from kimono fabric.
designboom mart: re-silicone.

re-silicone is the work of lucy fergus from the uk. she creates jewelry, lighting and floor coverings made with rubber silicone off-cuts. being that i'm a sucker for jewelry made of industrial materials, this was one of my favorites and i have a bracelet and key fob to prove it.
designboom mart: elvira vroomen.

elvira vroomen produces felt and leather bags with delicate screen printed or laser cut floral patterns applied to them. the colors are amazing and i walked away with one of her beautiful leather bags. and i easily could have gone home with more.
its me again.

i'm back from a great weekend in nyc. sunday i visited the young designer's market which was wonderful and inspiring and then sought refuge from the rain in this lovely bookstore. later i saw the murakami exhibit at the brooklyn museum. i've been a fan of his work since the wink installation in grand central and was blown away by some of his work including a entire room wallpapered with murakami flowers.
as for the the icff, it was everything i had hoped it would be. the highlight for me was probably the designboom mart which included a bunch of people i'd known only through the web but new ones too. and i was excited to meet jesse and jessica from nervous system. i didn't get in until late last night so i'm tired and haven't gone through my bag of catalogs and such but i'll post a few of my favorite things this morning from the shop.

petrol.

petrol by sylvain willenz.
rug assembled in two to three layers from machine-cut felt discs. the three different diameters of discs create the organic and random pattern of the rug. petrol can run down a corridor, or spill from one room into another, such a as a moving molecule. petrol may be produced in infinite configurations and formats.
diamond chair.

diamond chair by nendo.
the dense and crystal structure of a diamond efficiently disperses strength and light throughout the material, giving diamonds their singular hardness and shine. we designed a "'flexible but durable" structure that used this crystal structure as a motif, and wanted to devise a chair that would respond to pressure by absorbing rather than resisting it, and had the suppleness of human organs or muscles.
