i wasn't a math major. but i'm a regular listener of radiolab (yes, i listened to universe d.i.y. this morning on the train) and i'm always blown away by the intricate and beautiful pieces that nervous system puts out. unfortunately between being super busy and their table always being mobbed, i didn't get a chance to talk to or see jesse and jessica's new jewelry pieces but i'm sorry i didn't! created by sls (selective laser sintering) which is basically 3d printing using a nylon material, the pieces have their organic, mathematical vibe that is so nervous system. and they have some photos in their flickr stream of their inspirations.

love letter to berlin.

love letter to berlin by kgun.
"love letter to berlin" explores profound love, loss and absence, in the abstract and in the concrete, of the visible and invisible landscapes we travel. the book looks deeply into memory and forward into possibility, traveling among many cities, sensing what echoes in the empty spaces inside an apartment, and what joy exists in the embrace of two people, walking arm in arm through a unknown city. - liz tascio, writer

alexa lixfeld.

i'm always a fan of the designboom mart at the icff and one of my favorites this year was alexa lixfeld. her lovely cast porcelain bowl are a little industrial and imperfect in nature and it makes them completely gorgeous. mine is sitting happily on my table and it may stay there for a while.
back from icff.

kelly and i had a great time at the icff and got a really amazing response! the highlights were probably meeting the curator of the cooper-hewitt exhibit fashioning felt, the mcmasterpieces exhibit (an exhibit of pieces made entirely of parts and raw materials from mcmaster-carr) and our swank room at the ace hotel. You can find more photos here.

its time!

okay, the icff is two days away and i think kelly and i are ready(ish). i'm nervous and excited and really, really tired but can't wait to see what happens. its truly frightening to build something and invest so much time and energy and then throw it out there for the world to see. our business is still in its infancy and there's a part of me that feels we're not ready but what we've created is wonderful and unique and hope the reponse is the same. i will have my camera and powerbook with me and will try to post some photos during the show.

its been an exciting couple months for filzfelt. first, we were featured in readymade magazine and now we're going to the international contemporary furniture fair (icff)!
no surprise but we're swamped and lately i'm either working or tired from working so i'm taking another break from the blog. but if you're in the new york area may 16-19, please stop by booth no. 801. we'll have a special felt installation, be passing out a giveaway product and talking lots of felt!
